I AM THE RAIN

Assemblage 23 is the reckoning voice of Seattle-based Tom Shear. This serious yet frisky track—I Am The Rain —off the highly recommended "Failure" CD released in November, 2001, pounces past the wet cliches of old school electronica without missing a single beat. Of course, I read this song as an Islamic awareness warning.

Opening and key phrase too eager to appease places blame on the reticent position that politically-correct multiculturalist Europe is sinning against itself, and this "sin" will suddenly degrade into the cure is the disease. This disease, of course, rqeuires a "need for sacrifice" in what will no doubt become a war for survival against the jihadist-inspired Islamic invasion of the whole kaffir world, not only Europe. The remaining stanza emphasize in current anti-jihadist vocabulary the depth of this threat...

These amenities are nice
But there is need for sacrifice
You must lose so you may gain

It's too easy to malign
The implements that steal our time
But it's we who are to blame

By interpolation, these two stanzas seem to indicate that materialism has its place, but we should never grow too pre-occupied or complacent with creature comforts to wake up to what's important in order to be available to enjoy them another day, particularly in terms of a civilization's stand against a ruthless enemy on record in aiming to destroy the whole of the West in the name of its religion. Often the Left blames materialism for its powers of alienation, but by emphaszing that "it's we who are to blame" Shear plainly dismisses that silly notion.

The forces that is the rain are not made entirely clear. Every songwriter loves a good mystery.

Too eager to appease
The cure is the disease
And it's only growing worse

Day by day it takes its hold
Divides its cells a thousandfold
And makes your blindness seem perverse

Out of sight and out of mind
Are deadly traits when they're combined
But it's easier that way

Sit and watch the world go by
While all the problems multiply
With nothing left to do but pray

I am the rain
Falling down to cover you
Wish me away
But I'm here for your own good
I am the storm
Sent to wake you from your dream
Show me your scorn
But you'll thank me in the end

These amenities are nice
But there is need for sacrifice
You must lose so you may gain

It's too easy to malign
The implements that steal our time
But it's we who are to blame

Fill your pockets while you can
And try to keep the upper hand
The voice of reason sounds so shrill

Surround yourself with all you own
Work your fingers to the bone
And happiness evades you still

I am the rain
Falling down to cover you
Wish me away
But I'm here for your own good
I am the storm
Sent to wake you from your dream
Show me your scorn
But you'll thank me in the end

Too eager to appease
You've lost the forest for the trees
And it really is a shame

It is such a sorry sight
When you evaluate your life
You've only got yourself to blame

I am the rain
Falling down to cover you
Wish me away
But I'm here for your own good
I am the storm
Sent to wake you from your dream
Show me your scorn
But you'll thank me in the end
